Soulard Mardi Gras crowd larger than last year; police arrest 60

Sunny skies and temperatures that approached 60 degrees drew a larger crowd than last year to Soulard’s annual Mardi Gras parade on Saturday, according to event organizers.

While there’s no official crowd estimate, Mack Bradley, a spokesman for festival organizer Mardi Gras Inc., said the gathering was “certainly” larger than last year.

St. Louis police reported no serious incidents Saturday, but per usual, there were dozens of arrests for minors in possession of alcohol.

Police reported 60 arrests in all Saturday, 47 of them for minors with alcohol. Six people were arrested for third-degree assault. Police arrested one person for property destruction, one for peace disturbance and one for urinating in public.
